John has tried over 400 criminal cases, more that 12 death penalty cases and more that 50 murder cases in the Brunswick Circuit counties.

Victims deserve a voice. John is a passionate advocate for victims' rights, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met throughout the legal process.

John Johnson is a native of Statesboro, Georgia and has lived in Jesup, Georgia for the past 47 years. He has served as and Assistant District Attorney for 46 years and as the Chief Assistant District Attorney for all three prior District Attorneys, Glenn Thomas, Stephen Kelley and Jackie Johnson. He now serves as an assistant State Court Solicitor in Glynn State Court.

 

He graduated from Statesboro highschool and entered Mercer

University, graduating with a degree Economics with minors in math and chemistry. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 6 ½ years on active duty and 1½ years in inactive reserves. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.

John has been married to Judy Morris for 57 years and they have 2 children, a son and a daughter and two grandchildren.

 

After leaving the Air Force, John and his family returned to Georgia living in Atlanta where he was employed with a bank and went to night law school, graduating with magna cum laude honors in 1976 and Master of Laws degree in 1977. He was president of his Senior Law class and a contributing writer to the Woodrow Wilson College Newspaper.

 

John began as an Assistant District Attorney in 1977 and began prosecuting cases in all of the counties of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit. In January, 1980 he was appointed Office Manager of the Glynn County DA's Office and served in that position for 10 years. He was appointed Office Manager for the Jesup Office and served continuously there until the end of 2020.

John has tried over 400 criminal cases, more that 12 death penalty cases and more that 50 murder cases in the Brunswick Circuit counties.

He also served as Jesup Municipal Court for 20 years.

He has been recognized twice as an Outstanding Assistant District Attorney by the District Attorney's Association and for "Outstanding Service" by Coroner Abe Brown with the Glynn County Coroner's Office.

 

John has helped the Sheriff and Chiefs of Police of Appling, Jeff Davis and Coffee counties establish the Altamaha Drug Task Force and was a member of the initial Board of Directors. John was an instructor at the Coastal Police Academy from 1983 to 1986 teaching search and seizure law and courtroom testimony.

 

John has been the past president of the Jesup Jaycees, Jaycee State Speakup winner, Jaycee State Chaplin, Past Master of Jesup Masonic Lodge, Past president of the Jesup Shrine Club and, in 2009, served as Potentate of Alee Shriners which serve 32 counties in Southeast Georgia.

 

John is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Superior Courts of Georgia, the State Courts of Georgia, the Court of Appeals of Georgia and the Supreme Court of Georgia. He was a member of the bar of the United States Federal Court for the Southern District of Georgia and the bar of the Eleventh Circuit Federal Court of Appeal.

John grew up in the First Baptist Church of Statesboro and is now a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Jesup, Georgia. He has served as a Sunday School teacher, Choir member and Leader, Lay reader, Vestry Member, Senior Warden, Church Treasurer (for 14 years), member of the Diocesan Council for the Georgia Diocese and as a Lay eucharistic minister and acting Verger assisting the Priest during services.
